New: you can ride as a pelican now. Meet the pelican

Fikaride gameplay on Coast Loop at golden hour: a rider on a coast road beside the sea, with computer pacers ahead.

In-game footage Coast Loop

Dude, it’s like Zwift, but free. And better.

Ride for free online, with no limits. Pay only for costumes to support the creator, who is about to have his first child (seriously). Or buy an offline version that will last you a lifetime (and baby Tadej’s lifetime).*

Update: Wife has vetoed the name Tadej. Wout and Remco also seem unlikely.

Ride now No account needed. Although you’ll want one to save/sync.

Some of our routes

Never ride the same route twice! Or ride it over and over again - we have leaderboards for that. We’re adding routes all the time, or help us add great ones by sending a GPX to routes-dj@fikaride.com.

Syncs with Strava and intervals.icu

Intervals.icu will likely be forever. Strava depends on Strava not changing too many rules for their API. <glares angrily at Garmin> Pepe glare

Intervals.icu is ready to connect. Strava is in a limited rollout. If you can’t connect yet, download your ride as a FIT file (it has the map) and upload it to Strava yourself.

  • Compatible with Strava
  • Intervals.icu

Ride against other people, bots, or yourself.

Okay, so there aren’t many people here yet. But don’t let that make you feel lonely: you can choose how many bots ride in the world with you, race against your previous ghosts, or send the link to friends. (We especially like the last one.)

Spotify

Are you a fancy Spotify Premium subscriber?

Listen to your tunes while you ride, because hey you're indoors! No one to run you over (or judge your taste in music).

Fun Surprises

Overtake NPCs to take their souls and collect them in your Clubhouse. Find fun and varied NPC victims on every route. Some of them even have personalities!

Customize your rider.

Pick a jersey, a helmet, glasses, shoes and wheels. Add Viking horns, a propeller or a gold bike. Or skip the human entirely and ride as a pelican. Your height and weight go into the physics. The rest is pure style.

Questions.

Why did you make this?

I got tired of paying Zwift $20 a month, and the app keeps getting more cluttered and weird. I wanted something that just lets me ride.

Will it stay free?

It’s free while I figure it out. Come ride, break things and tell me what would make it better. Eventually I’m aiming for $5.99 a month. If it gets really awesome, maybe it’ll be worth $7.99. That’s a future possibility, not today’s price. Sign up free now; there’s no automatic switch to a paid plan.

If you want to support the build today, Pro is already available for $5.99 a month or $50 a year, with every costume and a Pro badge. Lifetime Offline is $100 in the pre-sale, rising to $120 at launch. Pick your plan.

What devices are supported?

I only have a Wahoo KICKR Core, so that is the one I have tested. It should work with other Bluetooth smart trainers in desktop Chrome. If you can help me test yours, get in touch: devices@fikaride.com.

What do I need to run it?

A laptop or desktop, Chrome or Edge, a smart trainer and a pair of legs. Safari and Firefox can’t talk to trainers yet, so they have to sit this one out. The game draws a whole 3D world in your browser, so newer machines have an easier time. But give yours a spin! It runs smooth on the Macs I have here, and I’m working on making it faster everywhere else. If it struggles on your computer, tell me what you ride with and I’ll see what I can do. The first time you load a route, you have to download a bit, so please be patient on slower connections. You should be fine during the ride, though.

I have a bug / I think the people are creepy

Yeah, I’m working on these things! Send me an email about them: bugs@fikaride.com.

Who are you?

I’m Charles. I used to ride a lot, back when I was super into Ironmans, and I’m trying to get back into it. These days I spend my time coding instead of riding. It’s not a huge loss: my peak FTP was around 3 W/kg. Still proud of that, though. I have also taken a few green jerseys on Zwift, during off-peak hours when nobody was around.

I have a feature or route request.

Yes, thank you! I am super interested to hear it. Email me at charles@fikaride.com.

What’s the secret other URL?

www.fika.icu also comes here. Does anyone like that one better?
